Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TAV-001 is an investigational drug candidate being developed by Tavo Biotherapeutics for the treatment of glaucoma-related neurodegeneration. It features a dual mechanism of action designed to address both the elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) and the underlying neurodegenerative processes associated with glaucoma. TAV-001 acts as an NMDA receptor antagonist to reduce glutamate-induced excitotoxicity, thereby providing neuroprotection to retinal ganglion cells. Simultaneously, it targets a novel aqueous humor flow protein to facilitate IOP control. Preclinical studies have demonstrated significant reductions in intraocular pressure and signals of neuroprotection, positioning TAV-001 as a potential first-in-class disease-modifying therapy for glaucoma.
