Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tavacort is a topical combination cream containing the potent corticosteroid betamethasone valerate (0.1%) and the bacteriostatic antibiotic fusidic acid (2%). Developed by Innapharma, it is indicated for the treatment of inflammatory dermatoses, such as eczema, contact dermatitis, and psoriasis, when complicated by secondary bacterial infections (typically caused by *Staphylococcus aureus*). Betamethasone valerate acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist to suppress local inflammatory responses, reducing redness, swelling, and itching. Fusidic acid inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to elongation factor G (EF-G) on the ribosome, preventing its dissociation and halting translation. This dual-action formulation effectively manages both the underlying bacterial infection and the associated skin inflammation.
