Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tavituss is a traditional herbal medicinal product developed and manufactured by Pharmazeutische Fabrik Montavit for the treatment of coughs associated with the common cold. Formulated as an oral syrup, it combines fluid extracts of thyme (*Thymi herba*) and marshmallow root (*Althaeae radix*). Thyme extract provides secretolytic and bronchospasmolytic effects, helping to thin bronchial mucus and facilitate its expulsion. Marshmallow root extract contains mucilage that acts as a demulcent, forming a protective layer over the pharyngeal mucosa to soothe irritation and reduce the urge to cough. Tavituss is approved and marketed as an over-the-counter (OTC) respiratory treatment in several European markets.
