Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tavoniza is a brand name for vonoprazan, a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) developed and marketed by Atco Pharma in Egypt. Launched in June 2023, it is used for the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric and duodenal ulcers, and as part of a regimen for Helicobacter pylori eradication. Unlike traditional proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), vonoprazan inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme in a reversible and potassium-competitive manner, providing a more rapid and sustained suppression of gastric acid secretion. Although listed under cardiovascular products in some company portfolios, it is primarily a gastrointestinal medication.
