Overview

Taxodium distichum pollen is a non-standardized allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the bald cypress tree (Taxodium distichum). [2, 9] It is classified as a biologic allergen extract and is used for both the diagnosis (via percutaneous or intradermal skin testing) and treatment of allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis and asthma. [2, 4] For treatment, it is administered as a subcutaneous injection for hyposensitization therapy, which aims to induce immune tolerance in patients allergic to bald cypress pollen. [2] The product is marketed as a sterile aqueous or glycerinated solution by companies including ALK-Abello, Inc. and Greer Laboratories, Inc. [2, 5, 6]
