Taxonid is a brand name for nitazoxanide, a synthetic nitrothiazolyl-salicylamide derivative with broad-spectrum antiprotozoal and antiviral activity. It functions as a prodrug that is rapidly hydrolyzed to its active metabolite, tizoxanide.
