Overview

Taxosomes is a nanosomal formulation of paclitaxel being developed by Aphios Corporation for the treatment of breast and ovarian cancers. The active ingredient is paclitaxel, a taxane-class anticancer agent that works through microtubule stabilization by targeting tubulin. Aphios has utilized its proprietary CFN (Critical Fluid Nanotechnology) technology platform to encapsulate paclitaxel in small, uniform phospholipid liposomes called nanosomes. This formulation is Cremophor-free and designed to be much less toxic than conventional Taxol while maintaining or enhancing efficacy. The nanosomal delivery system masks the toxic nature of paclitaxel by trapping the hydrophobic compound inside lipid bilayers, creating a biocompatible formulation. Preclinical studies have shown that Taxosomes demonstrated markedly greater effects on tumor growth in nude mice with breast cancer xenografts compared to conventional formulations.
