Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TB0010 is a boron-containing small molecule developed by Tenboron Oy for use in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT). It is specifically designed to accumulate in tumor cells, such as those in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). The therapeutic effect is triggered when the patient is exposed to a low-energy neutron beam; the boron-10 isotopes within TB0010 capture neutrons and undergo a nuclear fission reaction, producing high-energy alpha particles and lithium nuclei. These particles travel only a very short distance (approximately 5-9 micrometers), effectively destroying the tumor cells from within while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues. TB0010 is intended to provide a more efficient and selective delivery of boron compared to older generation carriers.
