TB006 is a humanized monoclonal antibody developed as an investigational treatment for Alzheimer's disease. It targets Galectin-3 (Gal-3), a protein found at abnormally high levels in the brains of Alzheimer's patients, where it acts as a molecular scaffold promoting the aggregation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) and other toxic proteins such as tau, alpha-synuclein, and ApoE4 into neurotoxic oligomers and plaques. By binding to Galectin-3, TB006 inhibits its adhesive function, preventing the formation of these aggregates and facilitating the dissolution of existing plaques. This mechanism aims to restore synaptic integrity, reduce neuroinflammation, and improve cognitive function in patients with mild to severe Alzheimer's disease. Preclinical studies have shown that TB006 can significantly reduce amyloid plaque burden and reverse disease progression in animal models. The drug is administered by intravenous infusion and has demonstrated a favorable safety profile in early clinical trials[1][2][3][5][6][7][8].
