TBC-MVA is a vaccine based on the Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) virus platform. It is a plaque-purified isolate derived from an original MVA seed virus and was developed as an alternative to traditional smallpox vaccines such as Dryvax. The vaccine is designed to induce immunity against orthopoxviruses, including smallpox, by stimulating both cellular and humoral immune responses. In clinical studies, administration of TBC-MVA prior to Dryvax challenge reduced lesion severity, decreased viral shedding duration and magnitude, and enhanced vaccinia-specific CD8+ T cell responses as well as antibody production against extracellular enveloped virus proteins. The vaccine has demonstrated safety and immunogenicity in human trials[3].
