Overview

TBS-UCMSC-001 is an investigational allogeneic cell therapy developed by Translational Biosciences for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS). The therapy consists of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) harvested from donated human umbilical cord tissue, which are administered via intravenous infusion. The biological mechanism of action involves systemic immunomodulation and the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines, which aim to suppress the autoimmune response and neuroinflammation characteristic of MS. Additionally, UC-MSCs are hypothesized to promote a pro-regenerative environment in the central nervous system that may support remyelination and neural repair. A Phase 1/2 clinical trial (NCT02034188) conducted at the Stem Cell Institute in Panama demonstrated that the treatment was safe and associated with improvements in disability scales (EDSS), neurological function, and quality of life measures in patients with MS.
