TC-MSC is an investigational cell therapy consisting of allogeneic bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (BM-MSCs) developed by King's College London. It is specifically designed for the treatment of recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB), a severe hereditary blistering disorder caused by mutations in the COL7A1 gene, which leads to a deficiency in type VII collagen at the dermo-epidermal junction. Administered intravenously, these MSCs are intended to migrate to sites of injury and inflammation, where they exert immunomodulatory effects, promote tissue regeneration, and potentially facilitate the restoration of type VII collagen. The therapy was evaluated in the Phase I/II ADSTEM clinical trial, which demonstrated that the infusions were well-tolerated and showed potential in reducing disease activity and symptoms such as pruritus in adult patients.
