Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TCD-58205 is an experimental peritoneal dialysis (PD) solution developed by Terumo Corporation, specifically designed for patients with chronic renal failure. The formulation incorporates xylitol as an osmotic agent to enhance transperitoneal sodium removal (sodium sieving) and fluid ultrafiltration. By utilizing xylitol instead of or in addition to traditional glucose, TCD-58205 aims to maintain an effective osmotic gradient while potentially reducing the metabolic complications associated with high glucose absorption from conventional dialysates. Clinical trials in Japan, including randomized double-blind multicenter studies, have demonstrated that the continuous use of TCD-58205 can increase sodium clearance without compromising the overall dialysis dose or safety profile.
