Overview

TCM-001 is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy designed to target mesothelin (MSLN), a cell surface glycoprotein that is highly overexpressed in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and other solid tumors. Developed by the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, the therapy involves the genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express a CAR specific for MSLN. Upon re-infusion into the patient, these engineered T cells recognize and bind to MSLN-expressing tumor cells, triggering T-cell activation, the release of cytotoxic granules (such as perforin and granzymes), and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, ultimately leading to the lysis of the cancer cells. TCM-001 is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and preliminary anti-tumor activity in patients with advanced, mesothelin-positive pancreatic cancer.
