Tea tree oil is an essential oil derived from the leaves of the *Melaleuca alternifolia* plant, native to Australia. It is widely used for its antimicrobial properties, exhibiting antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and antiprotozoal activities. The primary active components include terpinen-4-ol and α-terpineol. Tea tree oil acts by disrupting microbial cell membranes and inhibiting inflammatory mediators such as TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-10, and prostaglandin E2 in human monocytes. It is commonly used topically for conditions like acne vulgaris, athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), nail fungus (onychomycosis), lice infestations, dandruff, minor wounds or cuts, mite infections at the base of eyelashes (demodicosis), and insect bites. Oral ingestion is contraindicated due to toxicity risks[1][3][4][5][8].
