Overview
This investigational topical treatment consists of eyelid swabs (wipes) impregnated with tea tree oil (TTO) and chamomile oil. Developed by researchers at Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa in collaboration with Koç University, it is primarily evaluated for the treatment of seborrheic blepharitis. The formulation leverages the antimicrobial and anti-parasitic properties of tea tree oil—specifically targeting *Demodex* mites often associated with blepharitis—and the anti-inflammatory and soothing properties of chamomile oil. In a double-blind randomized clinical trial (NCT04678531), the swabs demonstrated efficacy in reducing symptoms and clinical signs of blepharitis compared to baby shampoo, showing potential for superior symptomatic improvement.
