tea tree oil gel

Tea tree oil (TTO) gel is a natural phytotherapy modality being investigated by Ain Shams University as a locally delivered adjunct to non-surgical periodontal debridement for the treatment of localized periodontitis. Extracted from the *Melaleuca alternifolia* plant, the oil contains active components such as terpinen-4-ol and 1,8-cineole, which provide antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. In clinical studies, a 5% TTO gel formulation is applied directly into periodontal pockets to reduce the levels of periodontal pathogens and inflammatory mediators (such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and PGE2), thereby facilitating tissue repair and improving clinical outcomes like pocket depth and attachment level.
