Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tears Naturale Forte is an over-the-counter (OTC) ophthalmic lubricant solution developed by Alcon for the temporary relief of burning and irritation due to dryness of the eye. The formulation is a multi-ingredient demulcent system typically containing dextran 70, hypromellose (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose), and glycerin. These components work synergistically to supplement natural tears, stabilize the tear film, and provide a protective barrier on the ocular surface. Tears Naturale Forte often utilizes the Polyquad (polyquaternium-1) preservative system, which is designed to be less irritating to the ocular surface than traditional preservatives like benzalkonium chloride. It is widely used in the management of dry eye syndrome and has been studied for its efficacy in reducing ocular surface inflammation and improving patient comfort following ophthalmic procedures such as cataract surgery (phacoemulsification).
