Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is an **oral fixed-dose combination** of four components: - **Tebipenem pivoxil hydrobromide**: a prodrug of the carbapenem antibiotic tebipenem, designed for oral administration. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, making it active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and is under development for indications such as complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), pyelonephritis, and various respiratory and ear infections. The hydrobromide salt improves drug stability and formulation. - **Aluminum hydroxide** and **magnesium hydroxide**: antacids that neutralize gastric acid, providing relief of heartburn, indigestion, and acid-related symptoms. - **Simethicone**: an anti-foaming agent that reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the GI tract, aiding in the symptomatic relief of bloating and excessive gas. This combination would theoretically provide both antibiotic action against resistant infections (tebipenem) and symptomatic relief of dyspepsia/gas (antacids and simethicone). There is, however, no evidence that this four-drug combination is available as a single branded or generic product; the three-component antacid (aluminum hydroxide + magnesium hydroxide + simethicone) is available in products such as Mylanta, Maalox, and others[2][4][6][8]. Tebipenem pivoxil hydrobromide is marketed/developed separately as an antibiotic[1][3][5][7].
