Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tebodont is a topical antioxidant and antiseptic oral gel formulated with tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) and xylitol as its primary active ingredients. Developed by Dr. Wild & Co. AG and currently being evaluated by Kuwait University as an adjunctive therapy to scaling and root planing (SRP), the gel is designed to treat stage III and IV periodontitis and other inflammatory conditions of the gums and oral mucosa. It exerts its therapeutic effects through the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of tea tree oil, which helps reduce plaque formation and oxidative stress in periodontal tissues, while xylitol provides additional plaque-inhibiting benefits. The gel is applied topically to gingival pockets to enhance soft tissue healing and reduce postoperative biomarkers of inflammation.
