**Tecemotide** is an investigational MUC1-targeted therapeutic cancer vaccine antigen. It is a synthetic lipid-modified MUC1 peptide designed to generate cellular, including T-cell, immune responses against tumor cells that overexpress the mucin 1 glycoprotein. In clinical development, tecemotide was delivered as a liposomal vaccine formulation, commonly called Stimuvax or L-BLP25, with monophosphoryl lipid A as an adjuvant. Merck developed the asset principally for maintenance treatment after chemoradiotherapy in unresectable stage III non-small cell lung cancer; the global phase III START trial missed its primary overall-survival endpoint, and Merck discontinued its company-sponsored NSCLC program in September 2014. It was also evaluated in phase II studies in early breast cancer, prostate cancer, rectal cancer, colorectal cancer, and multiple myeloma.
