Overview
Techglim-1 is a branded generic formulation of glimepiride, an oral antidiabetic medication belonging to the second-generation sulfonylurea class. Developed and marketed by Cytech Pharmaceuticals in India, it is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride acts by binding to the sulfonylurea receptor 1 (SUR1) on the surface of pancreatic beta cells. This binding inhibits the ATP-sensitive potassium (K+ATP) channels, leading to cell membrane depolarization. The resulting depolarization opens voltage-gated calcium channels, causing an influx of calcium that triggers the exocytosis of insulin-containing granules. Techglim-1 is typically used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adult patients.
