Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Techglim-2 is a branded generic formulation of glimepiride, an oral antidiabetic medication belonging to the sulfonylurea class. Developed and marketed by Cytech Pharma, it is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride acts by binding to the sulfonylurea receptor 1 (SUR1) on the surface of pancreatic beta cells, which leads to the closure of ATP-sensitive potassium (K+ATP) channels. This closure causes cell depolarization, opening of voltage-gated calcium channels, and a subsequent influx of calcium, which triggers the release of insulin. It is typically used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients whose blood sugar is not adequately controlled by lifestyle changes alone.
