Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Technetium (99mTc) ethylenedicysteine (also known as 99mTc-EC or 99mTc-LLEC) is a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical used as a renal tubular imaging agent in dynamic renal scintigraphy (renography). It is a hydrophilic technetium-99m complex of L,L-ethylenedicysteine (L,L-EC) that is rapidly cleared from the blood and excreted into the urine primarily via active renal tubular secretion, with minimal hepatobiliary excretion. It serves as a highly stable and effective alternative to technetium-99m mercaptoacetyltriglycine (99mTc-MAG3) and iodine-131 orthoiodohippurate (131I-OIH) for evaluating renal function, perfusion, and urinary tract obstruction, particularly in pediatric patients and those with unilateral or bilateral duplicated kidneys.
