Technetium-99m DPD (technetium-99m dicarboxypropane diphosphonate) is a small molecule radiopharmaceutical used for diagnostic imaging. It consists of the radioactive isotope technetium-99m complexed with the diphosphonate ligand 3,3-diphosphono-1,2-propanodicarboxylic acid. The agent exhibits high affinity for hydroxyapatite crystals in bone, making it a standard tool for bone scintigraphy to detect metastases, fractures, and inflammatory bone diseases. Additionally, it has become a critical diagnostic tool for transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR), as it selectively accumulates in myocardial amyloid deposits. Following intravenous administration, the gamma radiation emitted by technetium-99m is captured using Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) imaging to provide high-resolution anatomical and functional data.
