Technetium‑99m ethylenedicysteine‑deoxyglucose is a radiopharmaceutical imaging agent used for the detection of metabolically active tissues, particularly in oncology and cardiology. Upon administration, it accumulates in cells with increased metabolic activity, such as proliferating tumor cells, allowing these tissues to be imaged using gamma scintigraphy or single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)[1][3][5]. The compound is synthesized by conjugating technetium‑labeled ethylenedicysteine with deoxyglucose (or glucosamine), enabling it to mimic glucose uptake pathways similar to fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG). Its uptake in tumors is mediated by glucose transport and phosphorylation via hexokinase[5]. Developed originally at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and further advanced by CellPoint LLC and the University of Chicago, this agent has been investigated for use in lung cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, myocardial ischemia, and other malignancies[3][6].
