Technetium-99m-nanocolloid is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent composed of nanometer-sized colloidal particles labeled with the gamma-emitting radionuclide technetium-99m. It is primarily used for sentinel lymph node mapping and identification in various cancers, including breast cancer and vulvar cancer. After injection near a tumor site, the nanocolloids are taken up by lymphatic vessels and accumulate in regional lymph nodes, allowing their detection via single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) or gamma camera imaging. The mechanism of action relies on the physical decay of technetium-99m by isomeric transition with emission of detectable gamma photons[7][8][3]. This enables precise localization of sentinel lymph nodes draining a primary tumor.
