Technetium phytate is a radiopharmaceutical compound consisting of the radionuclide technetium-99m complexed with phytic acid (inositol hexaphosphate). It forms colloidal particles in vivo that are rapidly taken up by the reticuloendothelial system—primarily the liver and spleen—after intravenous injection. The mechanism of action relies on particle size-dependent uptake by macrophages in these organs. Technetium [99mTc] phytate is used primarily for diagnostic imaging of hepatic and reticuloendothelial function as well as lymph node mapping. It can also be used to assess inflammation in tumors due to its accumulation in inflammatory cells within tumor tissue[1][3][8]. The agent does not exert pharmacodynamic effects at diagnostic concentrations[1].
