Overview

Technetium Tc-99m arcitumomab is a radiopharmaceutical used for the diagnostic imaging of colorectal cancers. It consists of the Fab' fragment of a murine IgG1 monoclonal antibody (arcitumomab, derived from IMMU-4/NP4), which specifically binds to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), a protein overexpressed in most colorectal cancers. The Fab' fragment is labeled with the radioactive isotope technetium Tc‑99m. Upon intravenous administration, the antibody fragment targets and accumulates in CEA-expressing tumor tissue, allowing for high-resolution single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging to localize primary and metastatic lesions. Technetium Tc‑99m arcitumomab was developed by Immunomedics and marketed under brand names such as CEA‑Scan but has since been withdrawn from some markets[1][2][4][7].
