Technetium Tc-99m disofenin is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent used primarily for hepatobiliary imaging. It is administered intravenously and enables visualization of the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts to assess their function and detect anatomical changes. The compound consists of the radioisotope technetium Tc-99m complexed with disofenin, an iminodiacetic acid derivative. Disofenin facilitates hepatic uptake due to its high liver-to-kidney extraction ratio and reduced dependence on serum bilirubin levels compared to other tracers in its class. Technetium Tc-99m decays by isomeric transition with a physical half-life of about 6 hours; after administration, it is rapidly cleared from circulation via the hepatobiliary system.
