Technetium Tc-99m etidronate is a radiopharmaceutical compound used primarily in nuclear medicine for diagnostic imaging, especially bone scintigraphy. It consists of the radioactive isotope technetium-99m chelated with etidronate, a bisphosphonate. After intravenous administration, the compound localizes in areas of altered osteogenesis and bone metabolism, allowing visualization of skeletal abnormalities such as metastases or fractures via gamma camera imaging. The mechanism involves passive uptake by hydroxyapatite crystals in bone at sites with increased turnover or remodeling. Technetium Tc-99m is produced from molybdenum generators and combined with sterile sodium etidronate to form the injectable complex[1][4][6]. This agent is not therapeutic but serves as a diagnostic tool.
