Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Technetium Tc 99m human serum albumin (Tc-99m HSA) is a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical consisting of human serum albumin labeled with the gamma-emitting radionuclide technetium-99m. It is primarily used as an intravascular imaging agent in nuclear medicine. Its main clinical indications include cardiac blood pool imaging (radionuclide ventriculography) to evaluate ventricular function, ejection fraction, and to assist in the detection of pericardial effusion and ventricular aneurysm. Additionally, Tc-99m HSA is utilized in abdominal scintigraphy to diagnose and localize protein loss in patients with protein-losing enteropathy (PLE). Following intravenous administration, the radiolabeled albumin remains within the vascular space long enough to allow for clear scintigraphic visualization of the cardiovascular system and gastrointestinal protein leakage.
