Technetium Tc-99m pyrophosphate is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent used primarily for imaging the bones and heart. It is administered intravenously and accumulates in areas of altered osteogenesis (bone formation) and in injured myocardium, particularly regions with irreversibly damaged myocardial cells. Its main clinical uses are skeletal scintigraphy to detect bone abnormalities (such as metastases or fractures) and cardiac imaging to evaluate acute myocardial infarction by highlighting necrotic tissue. The mechanism of action involves the localization of the radiotracer at sites of increased calcium deposition or cell injury, allowing visualization via gamma camera imaging. It has also been used for noninvasive assessment in amyloidosis and muscle necrosis[1][3][5].
