Technetium Tc 99m tilmanocept is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic imaging agent developed by Navidea Biopharmaceuticals. It is a mannosylated dextran derivative labeled with the radioisotope technetium-99m (Tc 99m). The agent is designed to specifically target the CD206 mannose receptor, which is highly expressed on the surface of activated macrophages. In the context of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), activated macrophages are key drivers of liver inflammation and progression to fibrosis. By binding to these receptors, Tc 99m tilmanocept allows for the visualization and quantification of macrophage-mediated inflammation in the liver using SPECT/CT imaging. This provides a non-invasive alternative to liver biopsy for assessing disease activity, heterogeneity, and monitoring therapeutic response in NASH patients.
