Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Technetium Tc 99m tilmanocept (Lymphoseek) combined with a vital blue dye (such as isosulfan blue or Patent Blue V) is used for lymphatic mapping and sentinel lymph node biopsy in patients with solid tumors. Lymphoseek is a radioactive diagnostic agent that binds to the CD206 mannose receptor on macrophages and dendritic cells within lymph nodes. The radiolabeled agent allows for intraoperative detection of sentinel lymph nodes using a handheld gamma counter. Vital blue dyes are visual tracers that stain the lymphatic vessels and nodes to aid in their identification during surgery. This combination improves the accuracy of identifying sentinel lymph nodes compared to either agent alone[5][7][8]. Lymphoseek was developed by Navidea and has demonstrated superior performance over vital blue dyes alone in clinical trials for breast cancer and melanoma[6][8].
