Rezoscan is a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical consisting of the bisphosphonate zoledronic acid labeled with the radionuclide technetium-99m (99mTc). Developed by Pharm-Sintez, it is utilized as an imaging agent for skeletal scintigraphy and Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT). The mechanism of action relies on the high affinity of the zoledronic acid moiety for hydroxyapatite crystals in bone tissue, particularly in areas of increased bone turnover and osteoblastic activity. Once localized to the skeleton, the gamma-emitting 99mTc isotope allows for the visualization of pathological bone changes. Rezoscan is primarily indicated for the detection of bone metastases in patients with malignant tumors, as well as for identifying pathological changes associated with osteomyelitis, bone tuberculosis, and arthritis.
