Overview
Techsart-AM is an oral fixed-dose combination tablet containing the angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) telmisartan (40 mg) and the dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB) amlodipine (5 mg). Developed and marketed by Cytech Pharma, this antihypertensive medication is indicated for the management of hypertension (high blood pressure) in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy. Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. Amlodipine inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells, promoting peripheral vasodilation. Together, these complementary mechanisms synergistically reduce peripheral vascular resistance, lower blood pressure, and decrease the risk of major cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and stroke.
