Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tecnu Extreme Poison Ivy Scrub is an over-the-counter (OTC) topical exfoliating cleanser developed by Tec Laboratories and marketed by Quest Products. It is indicated for the treatment and prevention of allergic contact dermatitis resulting from exposure to urushiol, the allergenic resin found in poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac plants. The product's primary mechanism of action is the mechanical removal of urushiol oil from the skin surface. It utilizes a combination of surfactants (such as polyoxyethylene (4) lauryl ether) to emulsify the oil and abrasive particles (silicon dioxide) to physically scrub the oil away before it can bond with skin proteins or to remove it after a rash has appeared. Additionally, the formulation contains benzethonium chloride, which serves as an antiseptic, and *Grindelia robusta* extract, which is traditionally used to provide relief from itching and skin irritation.
