TEE-2555 is a repurposed small molecule drug candidate being developed by Apteeus for the treatment of peroxisomal disorders, specifically PEX deficiency (peroxisomopathy). Identified through a phenotypic screening assay using patient-derived primary cells, TEE-2555 is designed to rescue peroxisome biogenesis defects. Peroxisomal disorders are caused by mutations in PEX genes, which encode peroxins necessary for peroxisome assembly and maintenance. TEE-2555 aims to restore these processes, potentially addressing the underlying metabolic and developmental issues associated with these rare congenital disorders. It is currently in the preclinical stage of development and was identified from a screen of over 2,500 existing drugs.
