Tegaderm CHG

Tegaderm CHG is a transparent intravenous (IV) securement dressing that integrates a chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) gel pad within a breathable film dressing. The product is designed to cover and protect catheter sites and secure devices to the skin while providing immediate and continuous antimicrobial protection for up to 7 days. The integrated gel pad contains 2% w/w chlorhexidine gluconate, an antiseptic agent with broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal activity. This combination reduces catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSI) and vascular catheter colonization by suppressing regrowth of microorganisms commonly associated with these infections. The transparent film acts as a waterproof barrier against external contaminants, including bacteria, viruses (27 nm or larger), yeast, and fluids, while allowing continuous site observation[1][3][6]. Clinical studies have shown that use of this dressing significantly reduces CRBSI rates compared to standard dressings but may increase the incidence of contact dermatitis[5][6]. It is not indicated for use on premature infants or infants younger than two months due to risk of hypersensitivity reactions or necrosis[1][8].
