Teglutik

Teglutik is a proprietary 5 mg/mL oral suspension formulation of the glutamate-modulating small molecule riluzole, developed to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in patients who have difficulty swallowing solid dosage forms. As a benzothiazole derivative, riluzole is thought to inhibit pathological glutamatergic neurotransmission—primarily by inhibiting glutamate release and modulating voltage-gated sodium channel activity—thereby reducing excitotoxic motor neuron injury and modestly prolonging survival or time to mechanical ventilation in ALS. Teglutik is bioequivalent to riluzole tablets in women, provides higher exposure in men, and its shear‑thinning liquid formulation allows administration orally or via enteral feeding tubes, offering an optimized delivery option without changing the underlying mechanism of action.[1][3][10][11]
