Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tegoprazan + bismuth is a combination therapy used primarily for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection. Tegoprazan is a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) that inhibits gastric acid secretion by blocking the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells, leading to increased intragastric pH. Bismuth compounds, such as bismuth potassium citrate or other bismuth salts, have antimicrobial activity against H. pylori and also protect the gastric mucosa by forming a protective barrier and exerting anti-inflammatory effects. The combination is often used as part of quadruple therapy regimens with antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin and clarithromycin or metronidazole and tetracycline) to improve eradication rates, especially in cases where resistance to standard therapies may be present[1][2][3]. Clinical studies show that adding bismuth to tegoprazan-based regimens significantly increases H. pylori eradication rates without increasing adverse events[1][2].
