Overview

Telaprevir + escitalopram is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs with distinct mechanisms and indications. Telaprevir is a direct-acting antiviral agent that inhibits the hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3/4A serine protease, thereby blocking viral replication. It was primarily used in combination therapy for chronic HCV genotype 1 infection but has been discontinued in many markets[2][6]. Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant indicated for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. It works by selectively inhibiting the serotonin transporter (SERT), increasing synaptic serotonin levels to improve mood and anxiety symptoms[5][8]. The combination may be considered in patients requiring both antiviral treatment for HCV and management of depression or anxiety; however, co-administration can decrease escitalopram concentrations due to drug-drug interactions, potentially necessitating dose adjustments[3].
