This is a combination of three agents—telaprevir, moxifloxacin, and placebo. Telaprevir is an oral small molecule NS3/4A protease inhibitor used as part of combination therapy for chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, specifically genotype 1. It inhibits the HCV NS3/4A serine protease, which is essential for viral replication[1][6]. Moxifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for bacterial DNA replication and repair. Placebo refers to an inert substance with no pharmacological effect, commonly used as a control in clinical trials.
