Overview

Telaprevir + peginterferon is a combination regimen used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, particularly genotype 1. **Telaprevir** is a small molecule antiviral that inhibits the HCV NS3/4A serine protease, preventing viral replication, while **peginterferon** (pegylated interferon alpha) is an immune modulator that stimulates host antiviral responses. The combination was frequently used with ribavirin for improved efficacy. Telaprevir was marketed under the brand name Incivek and approved for use in combination therapy in 2011, but subsequently withdrawn from the market due to the arrival of more effective treatments. Clinical trials demonstrated that the addition of telaprevir to peginterferon increased sustained virologic response rates compared to peginterferon monotherapy[1][2][3][5].
