Telaprevir + peginterferon alfa + ribavirin is a triple combination antiviral regimen formerly used for the treatment of genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in adults with compensated liver disease, including cirrhosis. Telaprevir is an NS3/4A serine protease inhibitor that blocks viral replication by inhibiting the proteolytic cleavage of HCV polyproteins into mature viral proteins essential for replication. Peginterferon alfa is a pegylated form of interferon alpha, which stimulates host immune responses against HCV, while ribavirin is a nucleoside analog with broad-spectrum antiviral activity that enhances the efficacy of interferons. This combination was indicated for both treatment-naïve patients and those who had previously failed interferon-based therapy[1][3][6].
