Teligen

Teligen is a brand name for a specific formulation of the drug **telotristat ethyl** (formerly known as LX1606), which is an orally administered inhibitor of tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH). Tryptophan hydroxylase is the rate-limiting enzyme in the biosynthesis of serotonin. By inhibiting this enzyme, Teligen reduces the overproduction of serotonin, which is a primary driver of symptoms in patients with carcinoid syndrome, such as severe diarrhea. It was developed to manage these symptoms in patients whose condition is inadequately controlled by somatostatin analog (SSA) therapy. The drug specifically targets the peripheral production of serotonin without affecting serotonin levels in the central nervous system, thereby minimizing potential neurological side effects.
