Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Telmimer is a brand name for telmisartan, an orally active, non-peptide angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) marketed by Merlion Lifescience. It selectively antagonizes the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor with high affinity, thereby inhibiting the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. Telmimer is primarily indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension and for the reduction of cardiovascular risk (such as stroke or myocardial infarction) in patients aged 55 years or older who are at high risk of developing major cardiovascular events and are unable to take ACE inhibitors. As a generic formulation, it provides a therapeutic alternative to the reference listed drug, Micardis.
