Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Telniko is a generic formulation of telmisartan, a non-peptide angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB) used for the treatment of essential hypertension and the reduction of cardiovascular morbidity. Developed and manufactured by Acinom Healthcare, the drug selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in many tissues, such as vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland. This blockade inhibits the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II, leading to a decrease in vascular resistance and blood pressure. Telmisartan is characterized by a long half-life, allowing for once-daily dosing, and is often used in patients who cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors.
