Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Telron is a branded pharmaceutical formulation of telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) manufactured by Hellix Healthcare. It is primarily indicated for the management of essential hypertension and heart failure, and is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients with manifest cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes mellitus with documented target organ damage. Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the Type-1 angiotensin II receptor (AT1) in tissues such as vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland. This action results in vasodilation and a decrease in the secretion of aldosterone, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing cardiovascular strain. Additionally, Telron is utilized to help preserve kidney function in patients with diabetes.
